So I’m still in love with the idea of getting a Gibson Les Paul, but I also don’t have a spare 2 grand to spend on a guitar, so I started looking around a bit more and liked the look of these 2, which are 1/3 the price of the LP.

I know that a lot of it is based on the player, but generally how do ESP and Schecters tend to sound, and how does their sound quality compare to a Gibson?
Thanks,
Nick
The sound is great on both. The Schecters usually have Duncan designed pickups. But the quality is lame. Schecters (I don’t really know about the ESP’s) bodies are made of bass wood or some really cheap wood and on both of my Schecters the strap buttons actually worked their way out of the wood. Not cool, especially when you’re on stage. The frets are stupid big, nothing like the feel of a Gibson. I’ve got 2 Gibson Les Pauls, and 2 Epiphone Les Pauls. I really like the sound AND quality of the Epi’s better than the Gibson. You can get a brand new Epi Les Paul for around $650 plus tax. Or you can go to this site ( www.meanstreak.biz) and probably pick one up for around $400 plus shipping! Gibson makes the Epiphones. Same damn guitar, better quality, same sound and a fraction of the price. You’re really missing out if you don’t buy one of these. I have the Zakk Wylde Les Paul Epi with EMG pickups. NOW THAT’S THE GUITAR I’D GET IF YOU DON’T MIND THE CRAZY FINISH ON IT!

hey guys. i am thinking of getting a new guitar. yeah i noe fender is known for their SC sound and gibson for that ballsy sound, and they are two completely different sound… but I am using that guitar for high gain purpose so i am gonna put a humbucker no matter what. so it doesn’t really matter. I am looking at a fender strat or a gibson les paul (custom/studio). I don’t mind the thick neck or the frets access. So the strat or the les paul? Please give me some opinions. thankss
fender if you want less expensive but i’d personally get a Gibson sg

fender musicmaster 2
gibson les paul custom black beauty (this is not the epiphone)
i know the gibson will sound alot better and everything, but which would be easier to use for me if i’m somewhat knew to the guitar? and please DO NOT just say i should use an acoustic or a classical.
The Gibson will be a lot heavier, not to mention more expensive. I would say the fender neck might be easier to get your hand around. Both are good choices. You should go to a guitar store, spend a couple minutes holding one of each, and see which is more comfortable.

I have a silvertone knock-off and I want people to think I have a Les Paul Custom.
They’re going to know its not a real Les Paul because necks for Les Paul’s are set necks not bolt on. So when they see you have a bolt on Les Paul neck its going to give it all away.

alright so i am looking to get a new electric guitar (a Les Paul), and my limit is $800. should i get a new Epiphone Les Paul Custom, or try to find a used Gibson Les Paul Studio for under $800? also, what (if any) are the differences between the two?
i play mostly christian type rock. i am looking at a range from a nice clean sound, to rockin-out rock (but not heavy metal)
it all depends on what sound you like more because the wood used for each guitar will be different. the kind of wood plays a big role in the sound and tone of the guitar.
the only difference that i see is the name of the company who made it. a lot of people go for the gibson name just for the name epiphone is just as good and gibson just not as popular.

Hi, I realize this question has been asked a bagillion times, but Im wondering about my personal situation. I am looking to buy a les paul, but I have not yet learned to play. I want to get a good guitar, not necessarily a GREAT one because I realize those can be well over 2000 dollars. I’m kind’ve leaning towards getting an epiphone les paul custom, but am unsure whether I should pay alot now for a good guitar, or pay less now, but maybe pay more in the long run when looking to upgrade, because I do really intend on learning how to play. I’m hoping to spend maybe around 1-2 thousand? is that too low? For an amp as well, as the one my dad has is really old, and doesn’t even have an "effects" outlet on it or w/e. Any suggestions?
I have a Epiphone Transparent Amber Les Paul Custom which I’m very happy with. I tried out many different Gibsons and Epiphones before I settled on this one because it was reasonably priced and I didn’t have to skimp on tone or appearance. I paid about $650 for it. The properties that make Les Pauls special are the warm humbucker tone, sustain and good looks. The flames on my Les Paul are excellent and the amber finish really shows it off. Tight construction, no rough edges or substandard parts. Neck feels comfortable too. Les Pauls are heavy which adds to their sustain. This one is no different. Tone is classic humbucker. Power when you need it and tone that cuts through the haze when soloing. Nobody knows I’m playing an Epiphone Les Paul and honestly I doubt they would care.
The best way to prove this is to go to an instrument store and plug in with a Gibson and an Epiphone and compare. Use the same amp and pickup settings. If the difference in tone is really worth the difference in price then you have your answer.
When it comes to amps, sometimes older is better especially if we’re talking tube amps. You can still run effects in a direct line rather than thru an effects loop but you might need some pre-amp for proper leveling. If you really want a new amp, expect to pay around $300 for a small combo amp like Fender Frontman 212R or Marshall MG30FX. As you get better and start playing gigs you’ll want something larger and louder but a lot of that depends on what you play, your effects rig and the sound you’re looking for. Happy playing.

Hey… i’m looking fer customized pickguards fer a new guitar i’m plannin on buying. Like the pickguards you wouldn’t normally find on an LP Custom. Like pickguards with pics on them, designs, and whatnot.
More likely it will be an EPIPHONE LES PAUL CUSTOM (Black Beauty 3)… and fer those of you who know, it comes with THREE pick ups.
I’ve looked everywhere fer pickguards that will match just right. but all i find are other brands and they all have 2 pick ups anyway.
Keep in mind that a GIBSON LP CUSTOM pickguard WILL NOT match an EPIPHONE LP CUSTOM pickguard. I need the pickguard that matches EXACTLY.
here is a pic of the guitar i’m plannin on gettin. She’s a beaut’: http://www.guitarcenter.com/item/expandedimage.aspx?t=4&img=Epiphone/567193jpg.jpg
anyone know a good website? or even a walk-in shop?
any help appreciated. Thanks.
A beaut indeed. Les Paul’s are and always will be my favourite guitar [ i have one = D ]
Try ordering one, contact the epiphone website or a local music store, and see what they can do. I dont know how ‘right’ it may be seeing as i just keep the original pick gards.
