Why The “Best of the Best” Choose The Gibson Les Paul Custom Guitar (This Proves It!)

19th June

The Les Paul Custom Electric Guitar, introduced in 1954, has always represented the highest level of elegance and beauty in the guitar world.  Having been played by famous guitarists such as Jimmy Page, of “Led Zeppelin”, Marc Bolan of “T-Rex”, Joe Walsh, of the “James Gang”, Keith Richards and Mick Taylor, of “The Rolling Stones”, Ron Wood of “The Faces”, Billy Gibbons, of “ZZTop”, Joe Perry, of “Aerosmith”, Angus Young, of “AC/DC”, and Eric Clapton, the Les Paul Custom has been recognized around the world for its quality and uniqueness since the day of its conception.

In 1945, Les Paul, jazz guitarist and inventor, brought his concept for a solid-body electric guitar to Gibson, already a leading guitar company of the time. Not recognizing the genius behind the Les Paul Custom Electric Guitar, they turned him down and called the prototype a “broom-stick with a pickup on it”.

Seven years later, with the growing popularity of the Fender Telecaster, Gibson was compelled to introduce the Les Paul as its first solid-body guitar, most likely the best move the company has ever made.

Produced after World War II, the Gibson Les Paul was one of the earliest commercially feasible solid-body electric guitars on the market. When Gibson released the Les Paul Custom in 1954 it sold for $325.00, today these guitars go for thousands of dollars.

The Les Paul Custom was the first Gibson to feature the “tune-o-matic” bridge, which is now standard in Gibson electric guitars. The “tune-o-matic” bridge, with individually adjustable string saddles, allowed for fine-tuning of the string lengths to guarantee precise intonation of the fretted notes along the whole string. In addition, The Les Paul Custom has a deep, mellow rhythmic sound with a piercing high lead voice, which produces a “fatter” sound than most other guitars, perfect for filling a crowded venue with pitch-perfect sound. Not high-tech by any means, the Les Paul Custom is valued for its solid, dependable quality, made in the USA.

The Les Paul Custom Electric Guitar is the finest of the Les Paul line.  Known to be a luxury model, the standard design features a glossy black paint job over the solid mahogany body and hard maple top. Its appearance is unmatched in the guitar world, with a wide variety of models to match the individuality of every talent who picks one up. Since its release in 1954, the Les Paul Custom Electric Guitar has managed to evolve, keeping up with the times and the changing world of music.

One thing is definitely certain, no matter the changes and innovations that the world of guitars will see in the future, the Les Paul’s Custom Electric Guitar will always remain in the foremost position as guitar of choice for the world’s greatest guitarists. The black beauty, so often seen in the hands and heard on the albums of legendary rock guitarists, boasts qualities that leave all other guitars in the dust, making it the guitar of choice for real guitarists.

“Here is the ultimate in a solid body guitar … ‘The Fretless Wonder’ … The Incomparable Les Paul Custom Guitar,” — Gibson catalog, circa mid-1950s

STRUM THESE STRINGS! (CLICK HERE)

Once in a very long while a guitar comes out that captures the heart and imagination of those that have come to relish it. Today’s Les Paul Custom is based on the model from the mid-1950s, but with several modern distinctions. The body is crafted with a hand-carved maple top, which is fitted to a body made from a solid piece of mahogany with strategically routed holes to lessen the weight of the guitar, resulting in a Les Paul with enhanced acoustic qualities and improved resonance. The 24 ¾-inch scale length neck is also made from one solid piece of mahogany then topped by a 22-fret ebony fingerboard outfitted with figured acrylic block inlays and given Gibson’s traditional rounded profile. The pickups are Gibson’s 490R in the neck position, which offers the tonal characteristics of the original PAFs, and the 498T in the bridge position, which swaps the 490R’s Alnico II magnet for an Alnico V, thus making it slightly hotter with emphasis on mid-ranges and highs. Other appointments include Gibson’s legendary Nashville Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece, metal tulip tuners, multi-ply white and black binding on both the top and back, gold hardware and a 1 11/16” nut width. The Les Paul Custom is available in Antique White, Ebony, Heritage Cherry Sun Burst, Wine Red and Silver Burst, and each guitar comes with the standard Gibson Custom case, custom care kit and certificate of authenticity. Enjoy this amazing guitar!
