dude buy a les paul special II
it is amazing. Remember to buy it with a P-90 pickup
it has that crunchy sound.
And probably you have to pay less than the price you are willing to pay
good luck
tell me the guitar you bought

It's probably a custom shop built guitar, so yes the quality is probably closer to the original vintage guitars than the other. It just means there is more care in the selection of materials and more refinement in the build. Not that the normal one is bad.

But I would expect the 57 to "feel" better, have a nicer neck and I bet the finish is better too. That can make a big difference in the whole vibe of the guitar and how it makes you feel to play it.

But they probably sound about the same.

They both have a "wrap-around" bridge. It would be possible to buy the right handed cheaper model, and have a repair tech make a new nut to accommodate the different sizes of the strings, (you can't just switch them around). Shouldn't be much more than $50.

Then you could order a left handed wraparound bridge from Gibson. That would do the trick.

The controls will be on the wrong side, but that didn't bother Hendrix!

So you could switch it around for under $100 probably.

Might save you a bucket load of cash!
References :
http://www.myspace.com/tidbitunlimited

PRS will give u a lighter more mellow santana type tone where as the gibson can mimock many different tones. my epiphone lp with emg actives can play from hey there delilah to the blister exists in a heartbeat. i say gibson les paul studio, add some emg 81- 80s in and you got a metal machine from clean street in looks.
References :
i have a PRS SE Paul allender, which is based off the SE custom body, and even though its a $600 guitar, it plays like one that costs $1200. its weight is perfectly balanced, and it just looks beautiful. i would recommend the PRS over a gibson anyday.
References :
I have never played either guitar but have you gone to the Gibson website?? They do have a consumer question dept on there...check that out! If you have a Music store where you live, ask them to find out for you!
References :
Guitar Player for 34 years

well both are great choices. i think i would probably go with the sg simply because it would be a little lighter for playing for a long period of time. either one would have excellant sound for what you want but as you know you can always get a pedal to change for a wider sound. all in all i think i would definately go with the sg just for the fact i think it will meet your needs a little better than the les paul. the les paul is so bulky that you may get tired sooner if you play for long periods of time especially if you are only going to have one guitar. gibson also has the sg supreme under the epiphone label of theirs that might save you some money. you might also check it out. hope this helps a little. have fun with your new toy and keep rockin'!
References :
my opinion

They are both suitable, but a Les Paul is more appropriate for the style of music you like.

However, I would get the ES, as it is more versatile and will allow you to branch out to different musical styles as you grow up and gain wider interests.
References :
Playing guitar for 37 years and owned themn both.

my suggestion to you is to go somewhere like guitar center and look at them in person and see which one is going to be best suited for what you want to play. also go with the one that feels the best to you. i have two epiphone guitars (gibson) one is a 1958 corina flying v reissue sp ed, and a explorer that i bought early 80's. i love both of them because they fit my hand great. just find your best fit and you'll be great. lots of luck!
EDIT: by the way gibson had the les paul and the sg guitars also under their epiphone name. might save you some cash. thought you might want to know. basically the same lower cost. again best of luck and have fun. rock on
